means that the IDE toolchain will not time limited but code compiled limited (64KB Kinetis-L or E, 128KB Kinetis-K ...)

Online version means you will have to download a lighter installation package (650Mb) and you will have to download next the target package(s) (Kinetis, S12 ...)

Offline version means you will have to download a full installation package (1.2Gb) including all Freescale MCU targets

Special Edition: CodeWarrior for Microcontrollers 10.4 (Eclipse, Online)

Special Edition: CodeWarrior for Microcontrollers 10.4 (Eclipse, Offline)

About the headers, Freescale decided to remove them in order to reduce the board cost and make it accessible to the majority of the users.

Fortunately, Farnell/Element14 has launched a new bundle FRDM-KL25Z BASIC BUNDLEFRDM-KL25Z BASIC BUNDLE in Linux CLI (command-line interface). I also program it using mbed.org online compiler. My latest project for this board is Speech Synthesis using SpeakJet, compiled using mbed.org online compiler.

Very nice board! I'm hoping to build a SpeakJet shield very soon.

Have a Nice Day!

Marcos

RE: Review of the Freedom KL25z Board

Nice review Rahul.

RE: Review of the Freedom KL25z Board

Greetings,

I agree, the headers should be included. I would rather pay a little more for the product with the header.

As it is, I had to drive 70+ miles to get them and, still had to cut them down to fit. I could have ordered them but...

I did not want to wait. I wanted to play now

I bought extra. Like Nico, just in case.

The problem I see is, if you are not careful at soldering you can destroy the board.

I like the option of using the IDE or MBED. if your prototyping or learning provides a lot of resources.

Rahul,

Good review.

Regards,

Steve

RE: Review of the Freedom KL25z Board

No I don't agree with you. As long as you where on point with the product you where ok. But then you talked about

(1) mini CDs, which I promptly disregarded; it's completely unnecessary.

Why did you even bother to load it and see what was on the CD??!!

(2) in order to download a trial version of the software, I had to create a full account with Freescale (giving out all sorts of details such as what the end product is), only to be presented with a message saying that my request will be processed, instead of a download link. Forget it!

To answer this problem takes a lot of restraint. I am a member of the TI E2E site. In the REAL WORLD that what they all do. If you want something for free you have to tell the man your details name, address, phone, etc. and they ask to tell them (a) your project, so they know what segment you fall in to; (b) your time frame; (c) how many of the thing are you likely to build...

I think maybe you should just grow up.

RE: Review of the Freedom KL25z Board

Rahul

Nice review

I would agree with your comment about headers.

The very least is the ability to add them to the order.

Mark
