In this part I will describe Renesas RA2L1 microcontroller in details. In this part I will not describe evaluation board because it is described in dedicated blog post Review of Renesas EK-RA2L1 Devel

RE: Review of Renesas RA2L1 Microcontroller

Very good overview - a couple of points worth note regarding interrupts and TRNG/AES:

1. We ran out of interrupts with a target that wanted to use all of the UARTS, 2xI2C, 1xSPI, ADC and some timers. The trouble is that the FSP only has the implementation option of using IRQs and often peripherals take up several slots in the NVIC which may be multiplexed on other micros (e.g. single UART IRQ that you check for flags in the ISR has discrete IRQs on RA2L1).

2. TRNG/AES - the feedback I had from Renesas was that 'most people' can get along fine using the reference code rather than needing the the NDA and omitted sections of the user manual - for the most part this is true, just be prepared to go deep diving into the driver source code to find how to get a random number and AES with hardware acceleration is available using the mbedtls API, with plenty of software implementation to cover the parts mentioned in the article that aren't hardware accelerated.

RE: Review of Renesas RA2L1 Microcontroller

I appreciate the detail of this presentation. The comparation with ST tools is also really good because it gives some known reference points. Overall, a great review!

RE: Review of Renesas RA2L1 Microcontroller

Thank you for such a detailed overview of the RA2L. It is helpful for me since I do not know much about the line from Renesas.
