Making electrical connections to wire is a major requirement throughout the industry and crimped connections have proven to be an excellent way to accomplish this task, especially when the joint needs to have a combination of strength, d

RE: Crimping in Style - Molex MicroFit 3.0 Hand Crimp Tool Review

Great review Doug! The video's provided me with real-world practical experience.

Your comment regarding cost was a disappointment. Not that the comment is bad but rather it points out for the hobbist the cost of investing in this technology can be prohibitive.

I have an Asian knockoff crimper that was at a price point including the pins and bodies for connectors I couldn't refuse. I agree it takes some skill to get the ideal crimp and it has a high frustration factor when you haven't used it for some time. Unfortunately its price point was ideal.

I considered putting an application in for this RoadTest but knew it would be lost on me because I would not be able to absorb the cost as a hobbist to invest in this technology.

RE: Crimping in Style - Molex MicroFit 3.0 Hand Crimp Tool Review

Great review. I agree with your view on price, they really are too expensive for hobbyists but are likely to produce good crimps for the specific terminal compared to a more generic tool. I use a circa £25 Multicomp Pro tool to make Molex Kk254 crimps, ring terminal crimps, Faston crimps, DuPont crimps and probably anything else that comes up. It can be fiddly, but gets easier with practice, and I dare say the crimp isn’t always (ever??) perfect and it can be difficult to position the crimp in the tool but it works very well for the price. At the museum we have an RS PRO branded crimper which cost a remarkable £350 and can only do ring terminal crimps and is still fiddly to use.
