The Broadcom® AFBR-FS50B00 is a transceiver that communicates data over free space and thereby allows for wireless communication in a variety of applications. Full-duplex bidirectional communication, together with a small form factor, allows a compact system design. The device keeps full functionality over a 360° rotation around the optical axis, which reduces the complexity of alignment at the system level. The AFBR-FS50B00, a Laser Class 1 product, is RoHS compliant and is designed for SMT solderability standard processes.
There are two kits being offered in this RoadTest:
Note: The roadtester will be sent either the SMA or Gigabit Ethernet Eval kit, not both kits
The Broadcom® AFBR-FSEK50B00S evaluation kit is an evaluation platform for the AFBR-FS50B00 optical wireless transceiver. The documentation describes the two boards in the evaluation kit and includes a simple test setup to check whether the kit works correctly prior to testing any user application
The evaluation kit includes:

The AFBR-FSEK50B00S evaluation kit consists of two identical boards, facing each other. There are four 30-mm metal spacers placed between the two boards, which results in a distance between the two AFBR-FS50B00 optical wireless transceivers of 20 mm (top of the lens to top of the lens).
The Broadcom® AFBRFSEK50B00E Evaluation Kit is an evaluation platform for the Optical Wireless
Transceiver AFBR-FS50B00. The documentation describes in detail the two types of boards in the evaluation kit and a very simple test setup used to check whether the kit works correctly prior to testing any user application. The evaluation kit AFBR-FSEK50B00E consists of four boards, grouped in two types: two Media Converter PCBs plus two Optical Wireless Transceiver Front-end PCBs.
The evaluation kit includes:

I have some slip-rings on a rotary table for a high speed PIV camera on USB. This interface has given me many problems. It would be interesting to replace the slip-rings with this type of interface if…
Now that you mention it, we have a real application for a high bandwidth optical slip ring. This looks like it might work well for us.
