What were the biggest problems encountered?: When the unit is brand new, the buttons stick. I suspect that with time the texturing on the side of the buttons will wear smooth and it will no longer catch on the button well.

Below are some of my initial thoughts  on the Agilent U1273AX throuwn together in a quick video.

 

 

Yes...i know: My appartment is a terrible location to shoot the video. I'll see about improoving my video quality for my more comprehensive review in a couple of weeks.     I feel very fortunate to have recieved this unit and in return i do try to produce a quality review. I try to post original content, and take great effort to avoid regurgitating other reviews online...plus in most cases, video is a more useful format to demonstrate gadgets.

     

    I couldn't get the bluetooth module promo-link to work, so i ordered it from amazon. It's tremendously handy, and i plan to post an update to my review, with a demo of it. It was a huge time saver the other day, when i was on my own and had to map out a key for the circuit breaker panel in an older home.

    The rear panel is held in place by 2 phillips-head screws

    Removing the back cover exposes the battery/fuse compartment. Please take note of the black oring/gasget.

    This gasget seals tightly against the back panel and should protect the unit agaist intrusion from anything short of full submersion in water.

    Below you can see the body of the multimeter is made from 2 halves (injection molded?)...A second gasget is used to create a hermetic seal between these two halves and keep out particulates and liquids.

    The only other location where penetration could occur is between the front panel and the buttons. Althought, without opening up the unit i am unable to show how well that location is sealed.

    From the exterior it feels very well built....as far as IP54 testing goes, what would you like me to perform...as i recall IP54 is just rating it to withstand dust sized particulates and splashes of H2O...i will post some pictures shortly of the battery/fuse access panel on the rear which has in place a rubber gasget to help with dust intrusion and exposure to water...Do you have any suggestions on how you would like me to proceed: I could easily take it down to my shop and expose it to sawdust particulates, and splash it with H2O, but i'm not sure if that would really "proove" anything.

     

    I am thinking of opening up this unit and exposing the guts of it's construction. It'll void the warrenty, but i'm willing to do so for the U1273AX if requested. Perhaps this would be beneficial in giving you an idea of how robustly it is designed against the IP54 standard?
