RoadTest: Atmel SAM-4S Xplained Evaluation Kit
Evaluation Type: Independent Products
Did you receive all parts the manufacturer stated would be included in the package?: True
What other parts do you consider comparable to this product?: STDiscovery32, Arduino
What were the biggest problems encountered?: Limited supporting documentation available. Few examples and no online support or encouragement for community development.
The Atmel site gives just enough to get communicating with the board and one demo.
After that you’re on your own.
I was surprised with the very sparse and limited information that was provided by a search of the web. It would be nice to see Atmel champion their own board and put up some content up. I mean you want to sell these boards to get your chips used by a wider audience why not put some good demos or code examples out there to really show what this board can do?
That being said the board is nicely self-contained. No need for a separate programmer and is integrated nicely into the Studio 6 platform. This board could be good for a beginner if some tutorials were available to get the poor chump a little direction. I could see using this platform as a cheap way to develop a simple touch based controller with a limited amount of i/o.
The Atmel site gives just ... one demo
There's certainly more example projects than that available via the Studio!
