RoadTest: Raspberry Pi 2: We're Giving Away 50 Units!!!

Author: gregt590

Creation date:

Evaluation Type: Independent Products

Did you receive all parts the manufacturer stated would be included in the package?: True

What other parts do you consider comparable to this product?: Banana Pro, Intel Galileo, BeagleBone Black, HummingBoard, MinnowBoard MAX

What were the biggest problems encountered?: Some Node.js software and middleware compatibility issues that were solved once Node.js v0.10.36 source was downloaded and freshly built on the Raspberry Pi 2 along with the needed middleware.

Detailed Review:

We successfully updated our Internet-connected Cinespots Talon5 video server/cache, used in Digital Cinema applications to drive lobby monitors and movie pre-shows, from using a Raspberry Pi B+ to the new Raspberry PI 2 with minimal issues.  Its compatibility with existing Raspberry PI cases and components was a real plus and the additional memory and performance boost enables new functionality we are now developing.  We can definitely recommend the Raspberry Pi 2 for both hobbyist and commercial projects.  It has also been a real enabler for startup companies and its hard to beat the $35 list price for what you get.

  • OMG, not even a list of pros or cons? Looks like a free sample and little evaluation done. At least what demo was used and why marks taken off.

  • I have to agree with

While I appreciate you have some IP to protect, I wonder why apply for a Road Test when you appear to be a commercial company and you've provided little feedback.

If this wasn't a Road Test I would suspect it is simply spam.

  • Very minimalistic review, if even a review ?

What about more information on the video server and lobby monitors, with some pictures or videos even? Why did you choose the Pi in the first place and what benefits did you get from upgrading from B+ to 2?
