DLP NIR ScanNano Review

Measures have been conducted on fine salt and on flour with different conditions of illumination of the test setup to verify measurements output and repeatability.

Fine Salt

Fine salt was placed at 10 mm from the sample window. Three absorbance graph are reported with the method setup used.

In test 1 absorbance values where not reliable because almost always above value 1 of absorbance. This behavior was noticed in many other tests not reported in this review.

Flour

Tests on flour where conducted with different conditions of illumination of the test setup. Same method was used. Absorbance values where not reliable. Flour was placed at 20 mm from the sample window.

Other tests where conducted using flour to verify how the distance from the sample and the window was affecting the absorbance measurement output. For the next three graphs the configuration method was the same as the one applied for tests on fine salt. The next two reported measurements where conducted placing the sample at 10 mm of distance from the window, instead of 20 mm as in the previous tests with flour.

From this last two tests we have been able to see how the sample – window distance affects the asborbance measurement output.

More Tests will be conducted on other chemical compounds, especially coming from foods to investigate about measurements reliability.

Problems where encoutered using the GUI because of bad alignment of sections and buttons that limited the interactions for configuring the NIR Scan Nano.

  • Hi Marco,

I would like to see some pictures of your test setup.

Also, what was the humidity in the room?  Both salt and flour quickly absorb water from the air, which will affect the spectral response.

Can you elaborate the issues you had with the GUI?  What specifically caused you problems.  Can you provide screen capture?

I am sure that TI would like to better understand the issues you experienced and the community would like a better understanding of you testing so that they can better assess the product and your results.

  • It is designed to be placed directly on the sampling window. Illumination shines at an angle, so if you place it at a distance, your sample will simply not be properly illuminated. Also, the sampling window is imaged on the slit by the lens in order to collect more light from the sampling window and not anywhere else. I think you based your review score on the criteria, which are not really relevant. You cannot review a bike and give it 1 star of a 5 just because it doesn't have 4 wheels like a car.

  • Hi Marco,

Did you do any testing at a distance closer than 10mm? I noticed that most of my readings were very noisy when I didn't have my sample in direct contact with the NIRscan EVM sampling window.
