I interpret it as I could get a Joule, simply by rating the projects listed. Something like "Help your favourite project get an Intel Joule by voting" would be more suitable?

Yes, but with the rework of Roadtests, ensuring people understand it's not a giveaway, etc ... I feel it should be avoided.

I clicked on the catchy title, and then found I had to vote on a bunch of applicant entries to help the judges wade through a very large pile.

The Joule has some great video capabilities, it would be a shame to have that capability wasted just because it's available.

The other week I pointed to a project where an Intel Engineer had used one of their products to identify cats from a camera and operate a sprinkler

It would be nice to see if it could be used for something similar ... ie more aligned with it's strengths.

Sadly some of the poll items could be done with a much less powerful device, and if the applicant had to buy something, probably would NOT chose this.

I agree. I thought that the proposals were either too simple or too complex. So I picked a middle one. Cat detection is a popular one although around us fox detection and water jets would be more useful.

Agree with @fvan. Even I came such a thought. Modifying the title will definitely help. Looks like a clickbait.

I guess you could argue that the title is misleading. I'm not sure how else to word it.

Basically, I went back to the supplier and they said they were willing to give some more Intel Joules for free to our members for project builds. The question is: (a) what type of project should be built and (b) who should be built them.

This post was meant to answer (a).

I took the leading ideas from the Intel Joule applications as the fodder for this pole. I wanted to get the members input relative to their interest level in the type of project. I will also take into consideration the comments. Once I had the topic(s) -- I believe they are giving more than 1 unit -- I had anticipated creating some kind of selection process to "award' the unit. It's not simply a giveaway; I need the individuals to build it. And this is not necessarily a RoadTest. I'd like to get a few more projects on the community based on the Joule.

Hey, I am trying to plan my idea of a project would be to create a 1metre squared board with a bunch of LED lights, (basically a giant LED screen.) I would then program the Intel joule to power each LED, when necessary.

I am a 14 year old kid so I might just need a little help with the facts of how to program the Intel joule, but would be very happy just to take part.

Let me know if this is too big of a project or is a completely stupid idea for me to even mention.

Well it depends what you want to display and over what interface, but the likelihood is that the Joule might be way over-spec for what you need. It's possible to drive LED panels from many lower powered (and cheaper) devices such as the Arduino Uno.
