An excellent subject! Type-C is somewhat complex. You can learn a lot while reviewing...

It looks well made with plenty of signal taps easily available. There are a lot of options with the Type C, it will take a while to do a thorough test. DAB

This is how I think about this roadtest:  I am not sure how thorough Maxim expects the review to be and what they want to accomplish with this review - do they want to find out if there is any bug  that needs to be fixed, performance that needs to be improved, or are they looking for just some promotion of the product.  For the first case, based on the datasheet info to do a complete evaluation of this product I estimate 40 - 50 hours that would include tests development, fixtures, measurements, data processing, and data preparation for blogs and report.  Yes, we get the kit but the price of this kit is $80 so divided by 40 hours results in $2 per hour of specialized work.  For the second case, yes I can see possible to do some measurements and write a short report in maybe 2 hours (~$40 per hour - this is more inline with the job market).  I would not go with this second choice because I want to produce only extensive high  quality reviews - this has been my "signature" so far on all I have done on Element14 and writing a poor or mediocre review is not what I want to do here, so for this reason I would not apply for this roadtest.

That's going to be the case for most road tests. Even the more expensive ones.

If you translate the road trip into (time spent * possibly achieved hourly rate when doing a contract) , it's going to be loss in almost any case.

You'd have to translate the knowledge earned into a value. And the new experience that you'd not typically get in the day job. And the battle scars of going public with the review.

It may be a labour of love.

Seems quite nice. This is out of my expertise, not sure how to test it, but I look forward to reading the reviews.
