The formal opening of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show is still a few weeks away but Ford has already unveiled their new concept called the Evos. The fastback gullwing four door aims to give a glimpse at Ford’s evolving global design language. The Evos is essentially a rolling design and technology inspiration board which will inform development under One Ford, the company’s global strategy to unite their product offer with outstanding design, smart technologies, and energy efficiency.

The exterior evolves Ford’s kinetic design language towards a more technical tone. The trapezoidal grille looks more tapered and the headlights have a low profile. The fastback profile gives the Evos a sleek, performance inspired silhouette complimented by uncluttered surface sculpting. The Evos sports dramatic gullwing doors which reveal passenger space inside for four. When we squint at the photos, especially the overhead shots, it is hard not to see influence from recent Aston Martin cars in the shape of the Evos.

Ford is using the Evos to also propose ideas for their next generation Sync technology. The global Research and Innovation team looked at new way of refining how drivers digitally connect with the car. With the Evos, they feel the future is not to create a rolling smartphone, rather researchers and engineers are looking for ways to make information interaction more seamless and the car more aware. This is achieved by building a stronger connection between the car and the drivers information cloud. The Evos uses this connection to personalize vehicle functions to each driver. For instance, the car could monitor a drivers work calendar and provide custom driving routes to work which avoid traffic. A wireless connection between the vehicle and an owners home could allow the vehicle to automatically turn house lights on or off, arm an alarm system and close the garage door as the car drives away.

Read the full press release here.

SOURCE: PSFK
