Freescale’s product portfolio includes a wide range of 16- and 32-bit MCUs with companion analog and mixed signal ICs (U-Chip) that offer high-quality, cost-effective solutions for the requirements of evolving automotive quality standards, motorcycle and small engine control.

Future generation will be based on system in chip package (SiP) to match with integration and cost effectiveness needs of this application.

Target Applications:

Scooter

Motorcycle Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Three-wheeler

Lawn equipment

Small Engine

Gasoline driven electric generators

Marine engines and personal watercraft

Design Challenges

Motorcycle manufacturers will be moving from mechanically controlled to electronically controlled systems to meet stricter emissions regulations. The challenge will be about staying cost-effective during this transition versus carburetor design while also satisfying the space constraints of the embedded ECU.

Solutions

Freescale's product portfolio includes a scalable MCU product line with an integrated companion IC (U-Chip) that control and optimize the injection cycle. The MC33812 combined with our S12P or S12G MCU and offer high-quality, cost-effective solutions for the requirements of evolving automotive quality standards, motorcycle and small engine control. Future chip development will integrate MCU and U-chip in the same package (system in package solution).

Real World Examples

Demonstrations with associated OEMs integrate our starter kit based on MC33812 + S12P MCU. Customer applications will be showcased during the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) and Designing with Freescale (DwF) seminar series.

Learm more about Freescale's Motorcycle Engine Control Unit and Small Engine Control Solutions here.
