I find that the future is becoming very cloudy.

Once again, technology has created a tremendous shift in usable skills and rapid shift in unemployment.

To me the biggest challenge is still population growth. Eventually global warming will make more arable land available, but the rate of population growth will soon exceed our current capabilities.

There are some stop gap measures that can be taken, but in the end, we will require more resources than we have.

Solutions fall into interesting categories. One, is to limit population growth using common sense approaches, such as limiting children in families. Problem is that too many cultures revere the child creation cycle and as we saw in China, there is extreme cultural prejudice to what is seen as a draconian measure.

Unfortunately, the other solution is war! This time honored system is engrained in every culture as the survival of the fittest, with combat being the deciding factor.

In the past this method has wrecked havoc on society, wasted resources and led to extreme suffering.

The challenge today is to find some way to cull the herd without these wide spread disruptions to society.

At this point, I see no politician willing to even broach the issue, let alone recommend a sane course of action.

Therefore we are event driven. Soon an event will make discussion moot and immediate action required.

The age old famine and disease will probably dominate the winnowing process. Nearly one half of the world population is just one bad crop year away from catastrophe?

If that thought does not scare you, then is should.

All of the education and skill that you possess will be useless in the basic struggle of survival.

I do not see a viable technology solution to the problem.

I hope someone out there can.
