What's gone wrong here !!

Hewlet and Packard started in their garage - all my favorite start ups (including Apple, Microsoft) and several much smaller ones locally just made do with whatever was to hand. It's the business and the people that count. When you need all that chrome and glass to make you feel good enough about your work to turn up every morning there is something wrong.

One of my favorites in the UK is the story behind the UK's two initial satellite TV companies - BSB and Sky.

BSB spent a load of cash on a big ego boosting building:

and Sky set up in a non descript factory unit on an industrial estate.

BSB (and MarcoPolo House are no more) - Sky ate up the remains of BSB some time ago.

We have daft "Innovation" projects in the UK too - they are good examples as to why governments should keep out of business.
