Cold War? Check. That and most stuff since . . . Things change....&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=2139&amp;AppID=96&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item><item><title>RE: How Did Your Military Experience Influence Your Engineering Career?</title><link>https://community.element14.com/technologies/businessofengineering/b/blog/posts/how-did-your-military-experience-influence-your-engineering-career</link><pubDate>Mon, 24 Oct 2016 20:11:31 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:259073ab-0629-41ed-aea8-29e88a323b30</guid><dc:creator>DAB</dc:creator><slash:comments>0</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;Hi Randall,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I did not serve in the Military, but I did work in the defense industry for 35 years.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As an engineer I worked on a lot of projects and helped make a lot of useful equipment, some of which is still in use some 15 years after I retired.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;November 11 is bitter sweet for me as I was disabled while traveling to a Military Conference on CMMI, which ended my engineering career.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I never doubted my reasons for helping to make advanced capabilities for the Military.&amp;nbsp; After all, we mostly had peace during the years and many small wars are better than big ones.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The current situation came about because some politicians decided that war was no longer possible after the Soviet Union fell.&amp;nbsp; We tried to tell them they were wrong, but they were bent on their Peace Dividend.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Well that dividend and cut I&amp;#39;m military spending led to 9/11 and the current Middle East mess.&amp;nbsp; A clear case of penny wise and pound foolish decisions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;DAB&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=2139&amp;AppID=96&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
