William Morris of the Morris Motor Company (maker of the iconic Morris Minor) used car parts to make iron lungs to assist with polio suffers in the 1950s and 1960s. The company used the expertise in manufacturing cars to make a low cost but effective iron lung. It didn&#39;t look pretty but it worked and were distributed to UK hospitals. </p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It is also interesting that William Morris was also, once the richest man in the world!
