Hi,

I am an Electrical Engineering Fresher, for the past 3 years, I have been making small electronic projects for students from different branches in my college for a little pocket money. Now after graduating I think this can be converted to a profitable business. I want guidance from you all on how I can make it more structured and how to proceed forward.

At the current stage, I am getting projects to complete as a freelancer and from some juniors or relatives of the people whose projects I completed. With your guidance, I can make it more organized.

Also, the city I live in has a few component stores so if you can suggest reliable sites from where I can order low-cost but high-quality components, It will be a great help.

My name is Randall Scasny. Many people know me on the community through RoadTests, webinars or the Essentials programs, which I manage. Through these roles, I am in contact with a lot of members. I've gotten a chance to know many of them, whether they are students, hobbyists, makers, working engineers, or etirees. But I haven't connected that much with members who define themselves as entrepreneurs, whether they are hardware or software focused, or are even entrepreneurs in another area who are element14 members to learn how to use technology in their businesses (i.e., vertical farming, would be an example). But I'd like to connect with and get to know our entrepreneurs better. I have owned two businesses in the past and I know how hard it is to get started, to get your marketing right, and to develop a customer base, so you can make a go of it after your financing runs low. I'd like to form an entrepreneurs group on element14. What form this informal group would take depends on what the group defines as important to them. Dear friends,

I have a big decision ahead of me and wish to have the community input. I am applying to Florida Tech and they have two education paths available to travel. One is called the protrack option and it involves a co-op between you and another local company where you have a paid internship. This is a 3-4 ratio of semesters in class. So you spend 3 in the internship and 4 in college yet still finish in 4 years with a bachelors. (Mine will be a dual major in electrical engineering and computer science) The other option is called the FastTrack and is where you can obtain your masters in 5 years in an accelerated education plan. Is a masters weighed heavier or is experience weighed more. I cant do both (I asked) and with the FastTrack I could do internships but they would be after school and cut into homework time. I could do it but itd be grueling and I dont know how serious they would take an unpaid intern. Any advice would be great.

I used this as a clever draw to get more readers. The actual intent is to start a discussion and get input from people for software. Most of the discussions I have seen on the site are about inventing hardware solutions to popular problems. I guess I am getting overloaded with how many ways there are to turn on an LED. A significant amount of computer work is actually in the realm of information technology, Too often what is lacking are skilled individuals that bring an array of tools to the task. The expression "If the only tool you have is a hammer, all your problems look like nails" is a problem I deal with in my professional life. I am constantly faced with vendors who provide the one pony circus (a million ways to make a state machine).

Embedded programming is a discipline that requires the developer to be expert at OS scheduling, database management, hardware interfacing, design architecture, and structured objects, as well as proper coding style, and best solution language. It is a constant process of sharpening the tool set to get the best solution. I have taken to putting some tools into retirement as well. Archiving example code and hint/help files is done periodically so I don't have to keep my COBOL skills current, but, by archiving properly, it is possible with a bit of effort, to blow the dust off a few brain cells, and get back in step with my Fortran lines starting in column 7. (...how old is this guy?)

Getting back to where I started with this, I wanted to put a call out to all you embedded PROGRAMMERS for tips and techniques and tricks learned that can become the foundation for tool boxes.

Tips like:

Thinking like a computer
Faster graphics and ray tracing
Integer only formulas
Weight loss (or wait loss) compression
T...I...M...I...N...G...

Again, some of these are done with hardware these days, but not all solutions have bottomless bank accounts. Sometimes a one chip 8-bit piece of hardware needs to run an 8 cylinder diesel fueling operation.

I have a new concept for an " old " device ? To whom would I address this patented concept too ?
