According to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), the US is lagging far be</description><dc:language>en-US</dc:language><generator>Telligent Community 12</generator><item><title>RE: Are newly implemented tech schools and programs for students headed towards extinction?</title><link>https://community.element14.com/technologies/embedded/b/blog/posts/are-newly-implemented-tech-schools-and-programs-for-students-headed-towards-extinction</link><pubDate>Tue, 11 Mar 2014 19:27:52 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:624e6e36-5c9b-4fd3-a95f-535ee2cb6476</guid><dc:creator>DAB</dc:creator><slash:comments>2</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;Hi Cabe,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This post identifies the power of the teachers union.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;They fear that any alternative education will jeopardize their jobs and pay, so they want to strangle any form of &amp;quot;learning&amp;quot; with bureaucracy and impediments.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I have given up on seeing any useful progress at that level.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What I propose is that we form Technical Guilds to train the future technologists.&amp;nbsp; We can setup cooperative agreements with the industries that need specific skills and then take potential candidates through a training program that leads to a specific job.&amp;nbsp; We set up the fee structure such that the student pays no up front costs, but then pay off their apprentice costs over time from the money they earn working.&amp;nbsp; It should be easy to set this up at the local level and keep control via specific contracts with the businesses in need of talent.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;By keeping everything private, we avoid the government interference and create immediate opportunity for all concerned.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just a thought,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;DAB&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=17325&amp;AppID=7&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
