The Vd power input accepts 6.5 - 12 V. Ideal to power the kit with a 9V battery. Less noise than any of the power supplies I have.

I mounted headers on J1 and use a 9 V clip with a female Molex 2-pin connector. Ideally I should have mounted a Molex Polarized Header Connector (e.g. [embed:ad4490ac-0ce8-4f2d-a04c-9285646d5689:900a9de0-c9ba-4d3b-bcb0-fca0cb6bfabb:text=9731148&style=link&farnell=9731148&newark=&cpc=&avnetemea=&avnetema=&avnetasia=&comoverride=&cmpoverride=&AreaInteracted=rte-content&bom=]). The header I used doesn't have a key. I clipped the 2 pins closed to the board side, and coloured the -side connector and the PCB black to give myself a hint of polarity.

if you want to see the temperature in the pc app, you need to use the Thermocouple firmware.

Here's the compiled binary, in Motorola format, that you can load over USB using Renesas Flash Programmer.
When this firmware is loaded, you 'll see a temp graph on the Application tab of the PC app.

To restore the board's original firmware, use the same Flash Programmer to reload the rx23ea_rssk_fw.mot file that sits in the same directory as the PC Tool.

To prepare the board for flash programming, unplug it, set JP17 to USB, and plug it back in.
Program (see Starter Kit Quick Start Guide for instructions), then unplug it again and reset JP17 to its original position (Emulator).

For some reason, when I use the out of box firmware, PC Tool tabs 1 -> 3 work, but I don't see values when sampling

When building the firmware myself from source, and use Renesas Flash programmer to upload it to the device, tabs 1 -> 3 don't work, but the application tab shows temperature:

Probably a user error ...
