Not enough properly placed voltage supply pins are provided for stability, signal integrity and EMI compliance - e.g. (but not limited to) Arduino, rpi, beaglebone and their shields and hats.

It is good practice to ensure that every I/O signal should be accompanied by a closely coupled return path.

Yes, the usability issues missing with some designs is based upon the conflict with the designer.

They defined a SBC, so they looked at getting access to the GPIO and ancillary devices.

As a maker, we look at mounting issues, room for plugs, heat sinks, shielding and size.

Forgetting to account for the physical aspects of :

Switches

Sockets

Mounting holes / screws.

As an example, here's the Arduino Yun, you can't put a screw in most of those mounting holes as they clash with exposed copper, the sockets or the metal casing of the flash socket.
