It's was an interesting read.

I have one question on something you mentioned:

"Includes a VCU for on device video trans-coding. However cannot do simultaneous decode encode."

Is this mentioned somewhere in the documentation? As per my understanding of working with the ZU7EV VCU the encoder and decoder are separate harware blocks and can work simultaneously.

RE: Xilinx Kria AI Vision Carrier Board

To clarify, the smart camera app only supports these two display resolutions 1080p and 4K. Initially I tried testing on an old monitor with 1280x720 resolution by changing the script display parameters and it did not support it.

The HDMI/DP multiplexer obviously supports all resolutions below 4K.

The plan was to implement a custom Vitis accelerated app taking the defects app as a baseline with the Petalinux BSP but I'm still setting up Vivado 2020.2.1 as Vivado 2020.1 does not support the board according to the documentation.

The predicament at this point is that I have a licensed version of Vivado 2020.1 and it will take a ~250Gb to Install Vitis 1.3 + new Vivado version + AI data folders so at this point getting an SSD or a new laptop seem like the only realistic solutions for such requirements.

Looking to implement a RPI V1.3 camera pipeline as soon as Vivado setup is done .

The carrier design also uses the same ISP from Onsemi as on the Avnet dual camera so similiar image pipelines can be ported easily with some modifications.

So getting there slowly!

Will try to update this again by this week if time permits.

RE: Xilinx Kria AI Vision Carrier Board

Great review.

I did not realize that the DP/HDMI output was limited to 1080P / 4K resolutions. Are you certain about this ?
Anyway, this does not affect the supported resolutions for the USB camera, since the output can be sent elsewhere (ie. RTSP, X-11 forwarding, flask web server, etc...).

Thank you for sharing the two links, from which the designs can be re-built from source:

 https://github.com/Xilinx/kv260-vitis.git

 https://xilinx-wiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/A/pages/1641152513/Kria+K26+SOM

Did you try to rebuild any of the apps from the github repository ?

Did you try to rebuild the petalinux BSP, which can be downloaded from the wiki page ?

Regards,
Mario.

RE: Xilinx Kria AI Vision Carrier Board

Very interesting to read your review.
