Of course the number of gates is finite. Ummmm! Say a Z80 8 bit and program it like the real deal.

Clem

RE: Flavia: the Free Logic Array

I have a number of other files to upload, including Installing and Running XXICC, pre-compiled executables, demo files, and release notes. I also need to update and verify the links in this 'blog post. I'm just waiting for the file upload problem to be fixed.

RE: Flavia: the Free Logic Array

Good post John,

Reminds me of my old bit slice development days.

The new FPGA capabilities provides people with the capability of creating special purpose circuits that need fast speed.

In my day we did this with the bit slice technology. Now that I see what Xilinx and Cypress are doing I am truly envious.

You can do so much on a single chip today and the tools are amazing.

Thanks

DAB

RE: Flavia: the Free Logic Array

Hi John,

Wow, you must have been busy!

This is amazing work. It is really really impressive.

I need to re-read, but, as I understand it, you have a platform-agnostic way to code and program logic (at CPLD-level complexity)

onto particular boards, using a Verilog-style language, and you've got an open source bitstream format! And open source tools.

Essentially what you've got is "Design and build your own CPLD and toolchain" if I understand it right?

I think you should publish a paper on this : ) Including building blocks of the toolchain, how they were written.

(Maybe you already plan to). Or time to find a book publisher : )
