&lt;p&gt;The IC was defect. I tested it with an &lt;a href="https://docs.arduino.cc/tutorials/generic/introduction-to-the-serial-peripheral-interface" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"&gt;Arduino example&lt;/a&gt;, and that failed too.
