&lt;p&gt;Since you are using Xilinx parts you might like to consider Xilinx&amp;#39;s suggestions to:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1) use synchronous resets by default&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;2) not reset stuff unless you actually need to&lt;/p&gt;
