color sorting system

Dear Friends ,

i think my bellow post is not clear for you all sorry

in short i need   to detect the color of a small object ( approximately 2mm x 5mm)  moving very fast front of  a camera,  something similar  to bellow photo

image

Hi

I need  to start a project on high speed  color sorting system  for grains , looking at the information in the web the most suitable combination is  to have a ccd interfaced to a fpga. I am good in microcontroller , C++ but  not in fpga. Image processing in fpga is new to me.   Recommendation on good book or any generic fpga code will be very helpful to me.

Regards

At how many points do you need to measure color?  You may be able to get by with something simpler than a camera.

    At least  8 points ,

commercials unit are having  200 points per line

There are  conventional system  using photo diodes  but calibration and adjustment very difficult .

Why FPGA when the Raspberry Pi can do the job with GPU and OpenCV

    C

Martin,  FPGA  considered  because , color recognition should be very fast

I'm not sure that you are quite ready to jump to an FPGA -  this is quite an ambitious project - if you have no FPGA experience you'll need to think in terms of at least 3 months investment of time to get up to speed (and in the UK at least a £5000 budget for courses !

But before you go that route:

How many of these will you make ?

How fast must it operate ?

How much can each system cost (assuming there will be more than one of them made) ?

How much time and money can you put into development. ?

If you are already proficient in C coding then at least consider using a DSP (check out TI and Anlaog Devices) or  GPU based approach (check out NVDIA and AMD).

    MK

There is a good market for this type of machines.  A chines machine would cost around  40k to 60 k USD. fitted with 4 to 6 cameras

Currently  I am working full time for a company  in automation field,  I hope I can spare some time to develop this.

The product passes front of the camera in less than 1/10 of a second once detected we need to use an ultra-fast pneumatic ejector – so more you save on detection more time we have for the ejection system .

I am  good in c I must explore  DSP chips option and GPU as well

    Thank you  for the comments

So good, There is a good market in India also, when start the project,

I am also  working in color sorter field past 10 years , if possible i also join with u.

if u working DSP chip option is right choice, most of china machine in DSP only,
