The light pollution issue is a key factor. Over 20% of the energy use is providing lights on at a time when most people are asleep. It is a quick fix, install PIR sensors on lights so that they only come on if someone is there to need them.

I remember the first time I flew over Las Vegas at night. Talk about a waste of energy. You could see the lights over 100 miles away. What a waste!

The carbon dioxide issue is a bogus one. Humans create such a small amount compared to the natural causes that any effort to reduce the levels is just wasted money. If you are concerned, plant more trees.

The diamond issue is cultural. Make owning diamonds useless and they will no longer be mined. Their pollution goes away and the stones decrease in value. Totally controllable by human behavior and cultural changes.

Plastic pollution again is cultural. Create a bounty for recycled plastic and it will quickly disappear. Create a law to ban it and the law will be ignored. Just look at the drug laws and how ineffective they are.

You have to take the money out of waste. Make recycled plastic valuable and it will be recycled. Tell people it is a good thing and they will just ignore it.

You have to use the system to create a solution. Making unenforceable laws is a waste of time and effort.

If you reward good behavior, you will have good behavior.

Turning more people into criminals solves nothing.
