I lost it when I moved in 1977. Not for any Medical use but because it would make a great short wave transmitter.... Just needs a modulator...

It was a large beast with two banana jacks on the front panel. There was a timer, plate current meter and a tuning knob. It had some different sized pads you were instructed to place above and below the affected limb. There were some picture of them on a persons arm and thigh.

I remember it had a huge tank coil suspended between two 811 tubes. Thats alone was frightening. I could easily get a few hundred watts of RF out of one of those tubes but to have a pair of them... I saw an Ameritron 811A amplifier at a recent hamfest and that reminded me of this monsters potential.

On the first power up test it crackled a bit so I quickly shut it off. then I shut the overhead fluorescent lights so I could see if there was any arcing. As soon as I powered it up the lights came back on.....

I figured it needed a load So I hooked up the large pad set and searched for a test subject. All I could find were some cold McDonalds fries so why not. I nestled the fry container between the pads and fired it up again. I tweaked the plate cap and then I heard my fried say "Its smoking" I looked all over but didn't see smoke. It was the fries! There was steam coming out from between the pads...

Still cant believe this was actually marketed to home users. I've worked in many hospitals and serviced all kinds of medical equipment. Never did any of it scare me like these monsters did....

Anybody else have experience with these machines?

Relax-a-Cizor, Medical Quackery or Just Ahead of its Time?

Anybody have any "Medical" devices in the attic?

Ever look at how they work?

I used to have a Diathermy machine and a weird high voltage stimulator that used gas filled tubes.

I worked at a hospital and dealt with "Real" equipment but I'm still amazed at what oddball stuff will sell....

I have a couple of Tens devices and never gave them much thought. This week my team is working on a very unique project that requires a lot of customer feedback. We need help from those with expertise in biotech, medical device research and development, and molecular biology.

We've been assigned a patented technology developed by a professor at our university. In essence, the technology is a biosensor in the form of a plasmonic interferometer that can be prepared with a multitude of substrates to detect the presence of a number of biomolecules in liquids. Our product idea around this is to package the sensor for prototyping and manufacturing purposes so that it can be integrated in devices used for testing applications in medical devices, food safety testing, and potentially for military and defense purposes. The value proposition of this sensor over other biosensors is that it will be low cost, small in size, highly sensitive, portable, and it gives feedback in real time.

My questions for you are;

Can you imagine devices that this sensor would be used for? I am looking to replace an old relay that I don't have a datasheet for. The relay is a Matsushita JY1J-DC12V. Other markings on the relay are AJY2315, 10A, 125V AC, 6A250V AC, Japan, and 30615. My understanding is that Matsushita is now Panasonic and I have found a datasheet for Panasonic JY1J relays but none share the exact same part number. http://www.panasonic-electric-works.com/catalogues/downloads/relays/en_ds_61154_0000.pdf Can anyone help me identify a relay that I can use to replace this old relay? I'm not sure if this is in the right sub-forum but the relay is being used in a medical device so I figured I would post here.

Thanks for your help!

-Metro Ophthalmic

The Controller Project

A website connecting hardware people with people who need custom controllers

Here's a snapshot of their current forum

And a video explaining the project

www.youtube.com/watch

http://thecontrollerproject.com/

MD&M East 2013

Is anyone attending the MD&M East show in PA this week? The bit is 16 mm long and angles out 75 degrees. Sensors can be connected to the mandible or maxillae. The goal is to drill the first osteotomy(hole for the implant) hold the drill in position until a fairly accurate line segment is recorded and shows an a monitor (ideally Bluetooth to an iPad) position the drill in place for the next osteotomy and hold until the second line segment shows a favorable angle.

Question? Can sensor data show a record a line segment at an angle proportional to the drill. Can the be recorded and imprinted on screen while next osteotomy is prepared. Can a sensor on the mandible relate the position relative to drill ideally the segments are perpendicular to drill. Are two accelerometers necessary to plot the drill angle

MD&M West
