Righto, that's how you do it! As long as you are not using acrylic paint, you can dab on some drying paint (then it goes on thickly) and wipe it off a little later on the outside with a cotton rag lightly moistened with your paint's solvent. Rub frequently rather than hard.

In paint world they use the terms 'pigment' and 'vehicle.'

I literally own like five of them. In addition to that, I take great pride in a full detail of said cars. There is a company called Dr. ColorChip Automotive Paint Chip Repair Kit - Dr. ColorChip: Automotive Paint Chip Repair Systems

Let's say your nice Audi sustains a paint chip. This company supplies a correct paint match for your car. You brush it on liberally not being at all careful where the paint goes. You let it dry. Then you come back with their special cleaner and a white rag and it literally wipes away anything that is not down in the grooves of the chip. I would assume that you could brush this over your engraved lettering, let it dry, then wipe off excess using the cleaner.

Making model cars and military hardware was pretty popular back when I grew up back in the sixties-seventies. One way I remember we did raised lettering on, say, model car tires was to let the brush go a little lean and rather dry, than scrape the brush along the lettering sideways.

Ordered some stuff to do my own Anodisation you can put on resists or say vinyl lettering to make the letters up maybe even dye the case afterwards.

I fancy a Tie die colour case ..well freaky

Hi,

This is eighth inch (3.175 mm) glazing plastic from the hardware store. I bought some better, colored stuff from Petersen Bros scrap bin. Will post pics!

I think our ones still use hand engraving, but well worth investigating.

Here are a couple of preliminary drawing templates for my grandson and granddaughter. I left out an 18 degree rhomb, so I am not good to go. My son (uncle of the kids in question) lives in Madison, Wi. "Far enough to avoid yardwork, close enough to get bailed." He cut these from inkscape files at the local hacker space. They rest atop a micro ATX case modified for an NVidia jetson. 4K kinda makes the jetson groan a little. I am clang associating my clang associations.

Anyway, my only comment, besides 'Hi, all!' is look to do these at the Pumping Station: One as well as the mall.

You might want to take a pencil and fill in the depressions of your etch to increase the contrast for better visibility.

Also in hindsight I should have asked them if they produce lettering that can be filled with black paint, since that could be interesting too.

I'll have to investigate next time : )

They also do graphic images, so logos are possible!
