This is a really good set of tips, thanks for sharing. I just found this thanks to you linking it as part of a response under the flyback winners announcement. I appreciate you taking the time to score the final entries of the challenge, and I'm wondering if you would like to share with me any feedback you may have on my entry. That challenge was my first attempt at blogging, and I would like to improve for future challenges as well as to just improve my communication skills in general. Thank you! Thanks for sharing. Personally, I prefer to place the introduction section first before the table of contents. This way I think the reader is caught sooner and the browser and verint bots produce better snippets of the content for lists and summaries.

This is not the case with this blog because the titles of the first sections are chosen very intelligently and serve as a good summary.

Here are some alternate or complementary ideas:

Keep it simple and concise - the reader's time is valuable - let readers request more detail if they want it.

Make sure the title makes people want to click on it - it needs to be catchy or many won't even click on it.

Make sure the first line or two of text explains the big idea of the blog, you need to inspire interest immediately, or you will lose some readers.

Make sure you have a nice picture visible when the blog is first accessed - it speaks volumes without the reader needing to read volumes.

Structure your blog so that it goes progressively into more detail, so readers can easily read to the level of their interest.

And as Shabaz says, wrap it up with a summary/discussion/conclusion because lots of readers read to their level of interest and then just skip to the end to see the conclusion.

If the conclusions are interesting, they may go back and read more detail.
