Ya I think I might have to look up some reviews on them see if there is one that would be best suited for projects like this. Would be a tool that I would use probably more then a few of the tools in my shop lol

Nice project.

I use an old air filter system I picked up at a garage sale.

It includes a charged plate system that can eliminate the more noxious smoke content.

I have a cheap desktop fume filter extractor on my bench (it has a particle filter of sorts) as I couldn't justify the cost or the space taken up by the high end extractors. This fume extractor sucks! In a really bad way! I love this project, I think it's a great idea to combine cheap and easily available filters and there's loads of scope for improving it and adding new features and really customising it to your workspace and usage! A great and well documented build - thank you for sharing. You are obviously a very skilled woodworker, as well as those photos show. I like the way your design is in parts so you can get the fan module out (should one fail) and can also replace the filters separately.

We have some of those commercial ones at work, and finally the workshop decided to go big and have a very heavy duty model fitted outside and ducting inside to the workstations.

The bathroom fan is unlikely to work, as they are high volume but low pressure and struggle when there is any restrictions.

I'm wondering if some of the forced ventilation fan units would be better suited.

They are generally designed to blow air out, but what goes out, must come in.

The big issue is noise, since any increase in power is likely to cause an increase in the fan/air noise.

Of course more power comes at a cost.

You need something bigger to transport it around...but you have to admit that is one hell of a forced induction system, and I beat it removes all fumes and other things not fastened down ...

Hi Shabaz,

Your projects with wood are just as pretty as the ones with electronics. In another thread someone mentioned using some dry ice for a special effect. If you get some you should be able to see the actual area of influence of your filter. It might give a better idea of where to place it for the best balance of convenience and efficiency.

I built quite a few Heathkit products back in the day. They included solder, and it had the best smelling flux.
