These threats to the human population have helped to lead to the development of nuclear energy.Fission as it stands is a fantastic m</description><dc:language>en-US</dc:language><generator>Telligent Community 12</generator><item><title>RE: Fusion - an old method made new again</title><link>https://community.element14.com/technologies/power-management/b/alt-energy-blog/posts/fusion---an-old-method-made-new-again</link><pubDate>Tue, 09 Jul 2013 18:55:46 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:1f33ffaa-75a0-4ae6-ad58-1adfb19ea8d8</guid><dc:creator>DAB</dc:creator><slash:comments>1</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;I think we had a post on this method a year or so ago.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As I recall, they were beginning to scale up the process to conduct a break even test.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I think the reasons for the failure for the Fusion experiements has been a misunderstanding about what occurs during fusion in the Sun.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There is a common belief that the Sun fuses Hydrogen into Helium.&amp;nbsp; While the sun does produce Hydrogen and Helium, the actual fusion process only works on the nuclei.&amp;nbsp; The formation of Hydrogen and Helium atoms occurs as the resulting nuclei progress from the fusion zone towards the outer edge of the sun.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Trying to cause a plasma fusion requires a significant gravitational force in addition to the magnetic forces.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So unless you can duplicate the conditions existing inside the fusion zone of the star, you will not be able to sustain fusion at the Atomic level.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just a thought,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;DAB&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=16138&amp;AppID=68&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
