You may have an issue with that 5-year warranty from Ansmann, as I think it is only valid throughout the EU.

Although if it was shipped from a EU based Amazon warehouse, you may be ok
(Usually the problem is the other way around - shipped from a EU warehouse and manufacturer treating it as a grey import)

Does anyone charge / store their batteries in a steel box or aramid fibre bag to buy some time should they decide to fail in a bad way ?

Yes, you have to be careful with knockoff components.

You may think you are getting a deal by going cheap, but then this happens and you realize that maybe getting the approved component is indeed worth it.

I've had poor luck buying replacement batteries for my Panasonic camera. The replacements have slightly better specs than the original, but actual performance is dramatically worse. No bulging, just no capacity.

Here is a picture of an iphone I had - it still worked "fine" despite the battery being so swollen it bent the display....

I had been leaving it on the charger longer than necessary...

Something that didn’t last a day strikes me as faulty or fraudulent - the latter distinctly possible from Amazon. My understanding is they don’t physically separate stock by seller so if someone else is selling an Ansmann battery it gets lumped into the same storage location -True? Don’t know really. You do need to keep an eye on these batteries though as even genuine quality ones will go after a (long) while. I only buy original brand batteries from the official store or official stockists and never from Amazon or eBay etc…
