Sort of a hardware 'feature' bloat we see so much of in software these days. p.s. The major contributing factor to my purchase of the LG G4 was its removable battery and an incentive offer where I got a spare 3000mAh battery with travel charger. With the conferences and trade shows I attend, charging time and availability are at a premium, and the extra battery combined with a stout power backup charger allow me to blog, video, and photograph all day at events.

RE: Why we never have enough battery life

I forget where I heard this, but someone recently observed that "What Moore's Law giveth, javascript taketh away."

RE: Why we never have enough battery life

I personally just want this trend of ever thinner devices to reverse in order to be able fit in a decently sized battery. At this point, devices are already thin enough to fit comfortably in a pocket, and trading off battery life in an attempt to make the devices even thinner seems mostly pointless.

RE: Why we never have enough battery life

Looks a lot like some of the batteries in my DOA stash.

I have thought of some possible uses for old batteries, but those ideas are way down in my queue.

Still, a very nice review of where batteries have been and where they might be going.

DAB

RE: Why we never have enough battery life

Thanks for the nice history on the evolution of battery technology. I see that last week IBM announced that it will have chips with 7nm transistors so the more in less space continues. Fortunately many of the advancements have also cut the power consumption as well as increasing the gate density. I doubt that we will ever be completely satisfied with the capacity of our batteries but I have to say that most of my devices give me more usable mobile time that I would have believed possible just a few years ago. I enjoyed your blog.

John
