It&amp;#39;s because...</description><dc:language>en-US</dc:language><generator>Telligent Community 12</generator><item><title>RE: Maintaining Legacy Products: Everything Old is New Again</title><link>https://community.element14.com/technologies/robotics/b/blog/posts/maintaining-legacy-products-everything-old-is-new-again</link><pubDate>Mon, 16 Jul 2012 20:43:49 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:efe7e077-52d5-4680-91e9-5cd309c967b3</guid><dc:creator>DAB</dc:creator><slash:comments>1</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;AMEN!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Some of my most challenging projects were extending the life of old or obsolete equipment to keep the project on track.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Still, there is tremendous self satisfaction that comes from doing the near &amp;quot;impossible&amp;quot; when all of the new guys and smart guys all say to just buy or build a new device.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Back in my early days, the cost was 10% for software and 90% hardware.&amp;nbsp; You quickly learned to toss nothing away.&amp;nbsp; It was too expensive.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Even today, just because hardware is obsolete in a few years, they still represent an expense and the fruggle always look for ways to extend its life.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Besides, those are the driving issues that created many a Maker, who would look at an old discarded device and decides to make it do new things better.&amp;nbsp; That is why Making is the test of skill and innovation we all know and love.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just my opinion,&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;DAB&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=14259&amp;AppID=36&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
