Hello everyone,

I am working on a project where I need to detect the sound of vehicles (cars, heavy trucks) from a distance of around 100 m. The microphone will be placed in an open area on land, and the goal is to identify when a vehicle is approaching.

Currently, I am evaluating microphones like AOM-5024L-HD-R and CMA-4544PF-W, connected to a MAX9814 preamplifier module, with the output fed into an Arduino Uno ADC.

My questions are:

What type of microphone is most suitable for long-distance vehicle detection (100 m)?
How can I calculate whether the microphone output voltage will be sufficient for reliable detection at that distance?
Should I use additional filters (e.g., low-pass or band-pass) to separate vehicle sound from background noise (wind, people, etc.)?
Would I need a higher-gain preamplifier or a different approach (like a geophone or array microphone) for better detection?

Any advice, references, or design suggestions will be very helpful.

I am currently working on a project to develop a fibre optic dosimetry system. The system uses an organic scintillator (BCF-60), which emits green light at 530 nm, with an active volume of 0.8 mm³.

I am in the process of designing a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) circuit using different photodetectors, which I selected based on their spectral response range (360 nm to 900 nm).

Could you please guide me on the key tests I should perform to help select the most reliable and suitable photodiode for my application?

I am planning to test the TIA response using different LEDs (blue, green, red, and IR). I would appreciate your suggestions on any additional quick and effective tests I could perform to further characterize the photodiodes for use in my dosimetry system.

In TIA cct I used Rf 100k and 741 opamp.

having a problem with LM35 temperature sensor

Hello, I just started a project with LM35 (temperature sensors) with Arduino, after mounting it on my breadboard I noticed that the values in the serial monitor are inconsistent and vary in a strange way, for example I get 21°, 20°, 22° 24° successively which is impossible I get the same result with 5 different sensors, even whern i use a heat source the temperature the values vary also in a strange way and I don't know where the problem is can someone help me please?

I want to ask the Element14 community for help. I'm trying to study the PS5 camera device in order to use it as a cheap solution for computer vision. There is already a way to upload firmware to the camera via USB on the Internet, but this method is not very convenient, since it requires constantly uploading firmware when connecting the camera to USB and not all devices work with it. I would like to find a more universal solution.

What needs to be found out:
1. What controller is on the camera, and is it possible to flash it somehow? It seems to be OV580 with 32-bit RISC CPU. But I can't find a datasheet for this chip.

2. What elements are used on the board?

What got stuck to my shoe

I received a shipment of TCA9548A multiplexes in an anti-static bags. Slip in between the folds of one of the packages was this module. I suspect it is a long lost chip trying to find it way home. I've been unsuccessful in discovering what it is, so I can't give it purpose. Any suggestions?

The silver package to the left has the markings 1244 U401 001. The black components towards the top od the PCB has LB2K. There are no components or markings on the back of the board.

Anyone see this beast before?

The dimension of the board is 1cm square. It came with a five pin header not soldered.

I am working on a pilot use case of AI-IoT and I would appreciate feedback.

In particular, I am looking at the feasibility of deploying IoT sensors/sensors on communication mast - these sensors might be gateways that connect to
other distributed low-cost sensors within a locality. The usage of this sensor network could range from air quality monitoring, traffic analysis (for example
using Bluetooth signals), waste management etc. My questions

Are there potential pitfalls (technical and otherwise) of this system or better ways to rethink the system ?
If deployed in a local area as a paid service, can the model sustain itself and also generate revenue
Is this a totally irrelevant idea and doomed to fail.

Is MAX86150 or MAX30003 better for monitor the child's heart rate, oxygen levels (SpO2) and more?

I’m working on developing a wrist-worn smartwatch for kids. The device needs to monitor vital signs such as heart rate, oxygen saturation (SpO2), and potentially distress-related changes like arrhythmias or hypoxia.

Which sensor is better for smartwatch? Would the MAX86150 with its multi-modal capabilities (PPG, ECG, and BIA) be more effective in providing a comprehensive picture, or would the MAX30003's dedicated ECG offer more accurate heart rate data for detecting distress?
Would the ECG from MAX86150 be sufficient for detecting distress in scenarios, or would the MAX30003 provide more reliable ECG data?
What other sensors or considerations should I take into account to improve the detection accuracy, such as motion sensors (e.g., accelerometers) or water detection?

I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions based on your experience with similar wearable health monitoring or safety devices. Thank you!

Every month or year, charging batteries cost human lives and total household destruction.

I have successfully developed a Flame Detector which sends alert to internet broker over a wifi router once it detects "flame" near a charging battery.

Then, I want to improve it and add some more parameters to predict & detect imminent danger caused by a charging battery.

What suggestions could you make to improve my flame detector design? Thanks for your comments. 🙃

Temperature sensor accuracy

Hi all,

I have two temperature sensors near each other, outside. In the winter I was using one to keep track of the nectar temperature in a hummingbird feeder, but I just left it hanging there for the summer.

Here is the typical result:

The top line is a dht11 or could be 12. It includes pressure and humidity. The bottom line is a ds18b20 in a metal tube.

Both are digital, but one is nearly always about 1 or 2 degrees higher than the other. Generally it’s fine to give me a close enough idea of what’s going on, but I think I should be more accurate when looking at the freezing point.

Do I need to calibrate them? How would I go about doing that? Ie, what can I trust as a proper baseline? I don’t have access to any really guaranteed kind of thermometer, I think. 🤔

I am a newbie to the sensor network world. Any advice would be well appreciated.

My sensor has rs485 connector. So I want to relay my sensor data over 4g iot gateway to my mqtt broker (mosquitto) and then to cloud.

I intend to use an rs485 hub to collect sensor readings from multiple sensors.

The pipeline in summary sensor ===> rs485 hub ====> iot 4g gateway =====> broker (mosquitto) =====> cloud

/ My question is:

1) I saw modules called rs485 data logger , are those modules needed in this set up ?

2) are there any other considerations for robsutness of this set up

What Determines a Transducer's operational frequency?

I have to build a device using a transducer, operating between 10KHz and 30KHz.
What Im not sure about is if all these solid state transducers differ only by the driver circuit frequency, or if there is some spec that I should pay attention to.
Ill also take parts recommendations. 1-5 watts preferably.
