These are the two I have to hand.

At work, we used to use Mitutoyo, but for my own use I couldn't justify the cost so ended up buying the metal ones at the bottom of the picture. These were apparently German made, though there's no branding on them.

The plastic ones came from the cover of one of the UK electronic trade publications back in the 1990s or early 2000s (either Electronics Weekly or Electronics Times). There was a short-lived fad for giving away promotional items like this. These must have been sponsored by Anglia, who are a component distributor. They're surprisingly good for injection-moulded plastic.

Nice. I looked at buying a Mitutoyo but ended up with a Duratool because I couldn’t really justify the cost. It’s ok actually instructions are rubbish and I had to turn to internet. Now you need a matching micrometer to go with it.

You were an engineer before, but now you're visibly an engineer to even strangers who see it on your desk!

Very nice instrument.

By coincidence, I bought this a few days ago.. it's only a toy, it's actually tiny, the length of a pen, with perhaps 1/4 mm accuracy if I stare at the lines really hard : ) and the depth end of it is totally bent and unusable : ) but it was less than £1 - I'll use it to teach some young family members how to read the vernier marking, it will be a very interesting concept to them I think.
