I bought a C210 when you first posted and it works fine from 12V but nor from the USB supply I bough for it.

I fancied a stand for it but was a bit put off by how much they cost (approx £12) - so instead I bought 2 of these:

OK, a little bit more than a stand but you do get PSU, stand, iron and shipping for £28.

I bought 2 because I don't want to be without a spare - at this price it may not be the last word in reliability.

Just as another data-point, I have purchased a second of these irons, and it too performs well, it works with no issues. Temperature was accurate too, I measured it and it was about 8 degrees C higher than displayed on the screen, at a typical soldering temperature. (It can be calibrated using the built-in menu but at 8 degrees C I'm not going to bother).

However this time around the iron was supplied minus the foamy grip.

My genuine JBC iron handle (which I've used for many years) didn't come with a foamy grip so I never missed it before, but I liked it when I tried it on the portable iron.

Anyway, they are available as spares so I'll get a couple.

Another interesting thing is that the barrel-plug-to-USB-C adapter with the second iron doesn't work (the one that came with the first iron didn't work either!). I've no idea what I'm doing wrong; I've tried it in several USB-C chargers, and nothing happens. It's no big deal for me, because I actually want to use these irons from normal 12V DC supplies (e.g. bench supplies or a transformer supply) because then it is easy to ground, unlike with standard USB-C chargers. But for anyone who is looking for USB-C powered operation, then it would be an issue.

That is a very attractive and very comfortable looking iron. I am curious how the tips are holding up for you? As much as I like my Metcal, it seems that the tips do not last very long. I don't know if that has to do with my lead-free solder blend or what. After a short time, the tips seem to not wet as expected, making it difficult to get a pleasurable soldering experience.
