Most of my work is with electrical wire and controls, but I have been doing a lot more work with electronics lately. I have all sorts of pliers, cutters, scissors I use on the different types of wires and applications and have certain ones that work better or are more convenient. Knipex is gaining a lot of ground in my industry since many of the “Made in America” brands have started importing some of their tools and materials. I’m still using Klein and Ideal for most of my tools, but have been on the lookout for a good enough deal to grab some of the Knipex brand

It pays to research your tools before you buy.

Your post explains why some of us have multiple tools the appear to do the same job, but are used for different projects.

I have quite a few side cutter tools, including some high precision flush cutters that could cut a human hair right out to the tips. However I only use the expensive cutters when they are the only tool that would work. I generally reach for the cheapest cutters I have to avoid damaging or wearing out the more expensive ones. It means I don't end up using the best quality cutters very often. There is a level at which the tool is essentially useless so I don't buy them that cheap...

Incidentally, I almost always use flush cutters.

Fascinating article, shabaz; thanks for posting. My snip tools are also old and very old! They are all Lindstom, 50 years old and 35 years old. For the amount of work they do, I am happy with them, but when I read an article like this, I wonder if I should upgrade!?

This is interesting. So many options. I don’t have great snip tools but I have to say the old ones from my dad are better quality. I keep a variety in my tool shelf because some work betterthan others, depending on the particular task
