This is with 6 mm thick hardwood.

Really happy with the clean cuts.

I used these right-angle clamps. They are just average. Wish I had something better, but I don't know of a decent product at a reasonable price.

After I made two sets of the pieces shown in the photo above, then I clamped them together with normal clamps:

If you're wondering why it looks so ugly at this point, it's because I'm using thin strips of wood, they are glued together to form a wider piece. You can see all the glue seams in the photo above. Afterwards, I sanded it all clean on the outside (using a bench sander - an essential tool!).

I'm using thin strips of wood because they were cheap - I got a large box of offcuts for about £15. There are occasionally scrap wood offcut bundles on ebay. I don't have a choice what size they are, but that doesn't matter when you can glue many together to make a larger piece, and saw cleanly to make it look as one.

RE: Miniature Table Saw (Bench Circular Saw): Proxxon KS 230 Unboxing!

"...The deep recess in the plastic top surface, on the left-hand-side, serves a purpose not currently known to mankind. No supplied accessory fits it..."

The recess may have been intended as a holder for the power cord when storing out of the way on a shelf or in a cupboard between use. It perhaps helps keep the flex away from the blade in transit.

I notice that it also exists on one of the scroll saw models, so is not unique to this one.

RE: Miniature Table Saw (Bench Circular Saw): Proxxon KS 230 Unboxing!

What motor is inside it.

RE: Miniature Table Saw (Bench Circular Saw): Proxxon KS 230 Unboxing!

Nice... I bought a cheapo bench to sized vacuum cleaner for extraction (well worth it !) because I suspect that breathing in fibre glass dust is bad for me.

I also have the Proxxon high speed drill.

All their stuff is a bit less good than you would have liked but it is cheap and conveniently small, so on ballance I'd recommend the three things I have.

I mainly use the small saw for trimming PCBs and the larger one for cutting bits off sheet material before milling it.

I have a small blade circular saw but it is truly terrifying to use.

I don't know what the big slot is for either.

MK

Here's how I'm using it to cut wood to lengths greater than I can measure off with the table, this method is working quite well, I've cut half a dozen pieces using it now.

First off, straighten up the edge by just trimming the wood as shown below. Obviously, make sure that the yellow plastic angle guide is set to 90 degrees, a small engineers square is helpful to do that.

Next, use a steel rule with adjustable stop, and set it to your desired length. Push the wood against the stop (i.e., the straightened-up edge of the wood), as shown with the green arrow in the photo below. The other end of the ruler should be just touching the blade.

In theory, you could now remove the ruler and proceed with the cut. However, in practise, you'll need to offset the ruler very slightly, a fudge factor to account for the teeth on the saw blade causing the cut to have more thickness than most of the blade. For my blade, that fudge factor is about 1 mm, you can see in the photo below that I pulled the ruler apart from the blade by a millimeter (which is easy to eyeball, I didn't measure that), With this method, the error is within about half a millimeter with the final cut.

I'm sure there are better techniques, but this one seems easy enough to do, and the results so far are good, I'm getting very accurate cuts.

RE: Miniature Table Saw (Bench Circular Saw): Proxxon KS 230 Unboxing!

Looks like an interesting tool.

Extremely clean cut, and it was refreshing how easy it did cut through this hardwood, although it's very disconcerting not having any speed control, nor saw blade height adjustment.

The old Bohler tool always struggled with hardwood, but then it's never been maintained and I have no idea how good it was when new since I bought that used.

What's extremely disappointing is the crazy small table area for the workpiece. The Bohler was better in that respect.

When cutting the wood shown in the photo, the angle guide was mostly held in free air, with just a portion of the metal part of it inserted in the table groove. I'm thinking I need to somehow extend the table but that could be a lot of work to do, I don't know if it's worth it.

RE: Miniature Table Saw (Bench Circular Saw): Proxxon KS 230 Unboxing!

Proxxon has some interesting tools. I have own one of their small drill presses that I used on small assembly work (handmade PCB and some plastics projects). I may have lent it to someone, and it might not have returned, as I don't remember purposely getting rid of it.

I find I get so much more work on my full-size tools these days, but I can still appreciate the need for these smaller footprint tools.
