I have a Tenma 72-1020 bench multimeter that I got with the winnings from an element14 contest. It seems identical to the UNI-T UT804 in appearance and specification. So Newark must get some rebranded UNI-T equipment (or perhaps the other way around :-). In any event I have been pleased with it. The rotary switch is fine so far after a year and a half or so. It is my Extech that seems to need to be wiggled a bit at times to make it connect on the VDC selection.

Like John, I too have owned a couple of pieces of Uni-T equipment, and the functionality has been good for the price. I have a Uni-T clamp meter, but also had a multimeter ages ago. However, the rotary switch on the multimeter did go flaky after some years : ( I don't know if it was just bad luck with that unit, so I was curious if you've spotted any significant differences in the rotary switch construction between the different manufacturers, during your series of reviews. It was many years ago, so construction methods could have changed. The clamp meter rotary switch has been fine, but I use that less.

Thank you for the report on your experiments with the UT-505. I have several Uni-T pieces of test equipment and from my amateur viewpoint they have been very satisfactory for my needs. It was nice to hear that yours was of reasonable quality.
