How is it Used? How does it Work?

Is it Legal?

Summary

IntroductionI needed to upgrade a spare room at home to convert it into an office. The ceiling has some low-voltage halogen lights

RE: WirePulser: A DIY Wire Locating Tool

Hi Shabaz,

Another nice project with a useful purpose. Your sine waves turn out much better than my sine waves (I suspect that might be because you know what you're doing and I don't).

Do you need C3? The dc voltage at the junction of all those capacitors is quite arbitrary and will be set by leakage in the real circuit [did the simulator complain?], so would it matter if you just connected it directly to R1 without the coupling cap?

RE: WirePulser: A DIY Wire Locating Tool

Nice little project. I didn't realise about being unable to easily tell the type of ferrite core you have received.

The Cable Avoidance Tools we use that come with a transmitter that produces a 33 kHz signal for us to identify underground cabling. Power output is adjustable from 0.1 W to 1 W. If the output power is set too high, then the signal gets picked up from everything around if you get too close with the detector.

The old halogen downlighters are notorious for causing heat damage to the connections.

Kind regards.

RE: WirePulser: A DIY Wire Locating Tool

Very cool project. Tone injection and tone reception are great ways to trace out wiring. It looks like you got it all working fairly well. Well done!
