The headset of my partner stopped working. The battery doesn't hold charge anymore. Jabra doesn't provide replacement components. But the accu used (AHB472625PLT) is available from cellphone repair sites.

I found the "take it apart" instruction on IFIXIT. It's not hard, but you need a little courage.

On the shell that has the microphone, find the hinge that's on the opposite side of the on-off switch. Put a screwdriver just next to it, and pry the shell off its hinge. The "eye" on that side is made to allow it to be removed that way.

Once I received my replacement (12 € delivered from Germany), I'll solder it in, and test...

Hello element14 community!

I am working on a smart glove that picks up hand movements, and sends them to a processor for gesture recognition. I am looking for two 6DOF IMUs on the glove:

An IMU on the index finger
An IMU on the back of the palm (the "dorsum" of the hand)

The reason that the IMUs should be 6DOF and not 9DOF is that I will put a separate, common magnetometer on the wrist for global orientation.

Furthermore, I strongly prefer that the IMU has either a) on-board sensor fusion, or b) easy to use sensor fusion library for ARM Cortex-M series.

Here are a few I've found so far, although I'm hesitant to buy them because their devkits are so expensive:

Bosch BMI055 (https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/bst/products/all_products/bmi055)
Bosch BMI160 (https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/bst/products/all_products/bmi160)
Invensense ICM-20689 (https://www.invensense.com/products/motion-tracking/6-axis/icm-20689/)

The reason I am not going for the MPU6050 from Invensense is that it looks like they are going to stop manufacturing it soon, and I will need large quantities in about a year's time.

Finally, the most important part: Here are some of the key specs I would like this IMU to fulfill:

200°/s or more gyro rate
On-board sensor fusion OR easy to use, good sensor fusion library for ARM Cortex-M
±10g or more accelerometer range
200Hz or more sampling rate
-40°C to 85°C or better temperature range
5mm x 5mm or smaller package

Hopefully that's enough info to get started. Please shoot me your recommendations, I would really appreciate it and it'll take this project one step further along the painful part selection phase. Thank you, and feel free to comment with any questions or requests for clarification (I might have overlooked something).

Hi Hari, please refer back to my comment to see my update with the edit. Basically, it was difficult for me to find the ICM-20689 on the market back then so I ended up choosing the MPU-9250 instead. It is very similar to the MPU-6050 but just an upgraded version and it is a 9DOF IMU.

EDIT: The comment below is out of date. I actually ended up going with the MPU-9250 which is again very similar to the ICM-20689 except it is 9DOF. I had to change because the MPU-9250 had much better availability in the market at the time of purchase.

I ended up going with the Invensense ICM-20689. It is part of the follow up line to the MPU-6050, which is itself a popular and high quality IMU. And its specs fit well for my project's requirements.

Anyone have any experience with AndersDX displays?

AndersDX make a display that I am interested in using for a smartwatch project (their round touchscreen TFT Displays | Product Catalogue | andersDX.com ) as it is the only SPI based round display I can find. Has anyone had any experience with them for small quantities, as I realise that they probably want to sell in bulk to large companies, as opposed to selling single units

Thank you for your reply, I had never seen the tianma display, however I could not find anywhere that seemed to be selling it. I had looked at the Alibaba Chinese made displays, however all of these that I could find used MIPI DSI, which is hard to interface (they'll charge $4,000 to give you the specifications). The AndersDX display seems to be the only one that uses SPI (or any other easy to use interface) that appears to be on sale right now.

I got an email today with a link: Reserve Strap | Reserve Strap. Being curious what this is for, I checked it out to see it. But for 249$? My idea is to have a pair of sunglasses with lens that dim when you press a button on the side of them. Then a pair of mini projectors in the nose piece project the images onto your lens. Also in the nose piece would be a camera and a IR sensor so you could use your hands to interact with the glasses using virtual reality.

You're right, Michael. Just 3D print the base/insole, then pad it and cover it up with leather/canvas, etc.

It's a very unnatural position to put a foot in in the first place - you're totally right about that. I've been at a wedding wearing big heels, and then for the next couple days I have a numb toe (or two) and sore foot. Definitely not good long-term.

Helping to distribute the pressure is the key. I'm thinking of those Dr Scholl's kiosks that show you where the highest pressure points are, then using that to shift and balance the weight. Doing that AND making a good-looking shoe will be a challenge indeed.....

Cole Haan partnered with Nike Air to make more comfortable high-end shoes. I had a pair and wore them until they fell apart! Would be great if they pioneered the 3D-printed-custom-shoe movement.

Anything better will be an improvement! With working downtown and doing lots of walking, heels are off the table anyway.

I'll tell you though, comfy(er) high heels would be a huge money maker... I would pay a lot for custom/comfortable shoes.
