Solved:Linux/Ubuntu Installation stuck in Vivado/Vitis AMD

abhishek2018
abhishek2018 over 2 years ago

This forum is the solution for those, who  using Ubuntu 18 or 22 or any other Ubuntu version, and installation stucks at generating device list.

The general installation time I found was 2hr 43 min or with all devices 3hr 20 min but after this in the final stage, nothing happens even after 15 or 16 hrs.

I am now trying installation 5th time with some solution implemented which I want to share.

3rd time stuck with version 2023.1 screenshot

4th time stuck with version 2022.2 screenshot

Now, i again trying 5th time.  I have added some Ubuntu libraries,Also  changed linux kernel, If succeed, will post solution here.

Hi all, I've experienced the same issues. I'm running a fresh install of ubuntu 22.04 on my desktop. If you're also having trouble, take a look at the following links: https://support.xilinx.com/s/question…

I'm confused, are you saying you're having difficulty with this, or that you've resolved something with this? Your post's missing a few explanations and specifics for me to understand.

I  faced difficulty in the installation of the software and it looks to me that anyother who will install on ubuntu will face the same problem.

I failed installing 4 times, and ist time stuck for 8 hr, 3rd time stuck for 15hrs, 4th time stuck for 2 hrs,

In my video, uploaded on my youtube channel, i had said , if i fail in this installation i will add dependencies etc.

Now, in my 5th attempt, i have changed linux kernel and added dependencies. If I succeed, I will post all commands, so that others get help.

    Any confusion now, cstanton

That's pretty slow, is it an 'all in one' installer (a single large file download), or is it contacting servers over the internet to install?

Nope it got hanged and this is the problem.

    Installation time

    1st attempt : 2hr 43 min , then hanged, waited 8 hrs nothing

3rd attempt : Screen shot attached, then hanged or idle or stuck, for 15 hrs, nothing happening.

installation time is only 3hr 20 min.

    1st , 2nd and 3rd attempts were with version 2023.1

4th attempt i tried with version 2022.2,  installation time is only 3hr 20 min. but  hanged or idle or stuck for 2 hrs.

    I aborted

Now i added ubuntu dependencies, etc. it is in installation process,, currently 58%done.

I made this forum separate as it looks typical problem in AMD installer and later anyone can find solution by seeing this content.

You might get issues with Xilinx runtime library installation as this.

    Solution :

I changed linux kernel from 5.19.0-41-generic to 5.19.0-42-generic.

Youtube video can be seen for proof for 5.19.0-41-generic

Proof of linux kernel :5.19.0-42-generic is screenshot

    image

then i added dependencies as mentioned even on installer

    image

I think with added dependencies, there is no linux kernel change required but I changed as you can see how much my time got wasted.

    Follow these steps

    sudo apt install libncurses5
    sudo apt install libtinfo5
    sudo apt install libncurses5-dev
    sudo apt install libncursesw5-dev
    sudo apt-get install libtinfo-dev
    sudo apt-get install libncurses-dev
    sudo apt-get install gitk
    sudo apt-get install libdpkg-perl
    sudo apt-get install git-gui
    sudo apt-get install libstdc++6
    sudo apt-get install libusb-dev
    sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-0
    sudo apt-get install libc6-dev-i386
    sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev
    sudo apt-get install libegl-mesa0
    sudo apt-get install libegl1-mesa
    sudo apt-get install libgbm1
    sudo apt-get install python3-apport
    sudo apt-get install fxload
    sudo apt-get install build-essential
    sudo apt update

Instead of 3hr 20 min, it took 3hr 14 min time for installation, then 15 minutes more in the final processing.

This video which I made for this got crashed, so I will show installation successful in video.

To open Vivado  from command line

    $ source /tools/Xilinx/Vivado/2023.1/settings64.sh
    $ vivado&
