I am working on some of the presentation now since weather is too bad for testing.
I struggled with what scheme to go with. Star Trek, Terminator, Robocop? I really liked the Droids from the Movie Oblivion but realized I would need a HUGE ball and the paper Mache my kids made was too heavy. So I decided on Star Wars! I decided a BB8 scheme would be good since R2D2 is so overdone. I made a modification as well that instead of the QuadCOP rotating to do a sensor scan, it will instead have a rotatable head Akin to the Star Wars Astro Droids.
Here is a sneak preview, more to come!
A fan is used to dry the base coat and Polyurethane for hardness. This is the top.
Underneath the hood on the bottom. The wood is to hold the main battery. This keeps the weight low and stabilizes the QuadCOP.
This servo mechanism will be "Turning Heads"
Masked off for first detail painting. This is the bottom, which will be the head. I found a nice eye to go with it! The Raspberry Pi cam will be on the head so it can look around.
First level details painted.
Not Bad, not perfect. Some weathering will hide all imperfections. Seems all Star Wars bots have some weathering on them to make them appear "old" or beat up a bit.
BOLLOCKS! Ketteh sez is mine.
Here is the general overall look I am going for on this, with the rotating head and the eye with the Pi Cam in it.
