In this blog, I am going to discuss set up, and explain Curiosity and Nano boards by the sponsor Microchip.
I will firstly explain what are Curiosity Nano Base evaluation kit and SAM E51 Curiosity Nano Evaluation Kit. Then I will explain I will do software IDE,IPE,compiler setup.
1. Curiosity Nano Base Evaluation Kit
The Curiosity Nano Base evaluation kit sponsored and manufactured by MICROCHIP is a Curiosity Nano adapter and is a Click Board interface for Curiosity Nano kits. This development board allows hardware extension using three mikroBUS Click sockets and one Xplained Pro extension header.

1.5 Powering Curiosity Nano Base evaluation kit
There are 3 ways to power this board
- 5VDC external power supply
- 4.20V Li-Ion or 4.20V LiPo Battery(with inbuilt battery charger)
- USB powered from the Curiosity Nano kit, which is connected to PC/Laptop
1.6 Xplained Pro Extension
Xplained Pro Extensions are small extension boards with extra peripheral functions like the mikroBUS Click modules. Following kind or Xplained Pro extension boards like Microchip I/O1 Xplained Pro extension board evaluation board can be connected at 'Xplained Pro Extension Header'.
2. SAM E51 Curiosity Nano Evaluation Kit
The SAM E51 Curiosity Nano Evaluation Kit (Manufacturer Part No: EV76S68A) by the sponsor 'Microchip' contains 32-bit ARM microcontroller chip belonging to the SAM families of 32-bit MCUs.
The silicon family name is SAM E51 with core number: SAME51J20A. This has core sub architecture based on 32-bit RISC ARM processor core of Cortex-M4F.
The SAME51 Curiosity Nano is USB powered with on-board Nano debugger for programming and debugging, so no external tool is needed to program.

3. Software Set Up
3.1 MPLAB X IDE
The MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE) version used in the project is v6.15. I have installed MPLAB X IDE on Ubuntu.

3.2 MPLAB IPE
Though SAME51 Curiosity has on-board programmer and debugger but at the time of MPLAB X IDE, MPLAB IPE(Integrated Programming Environment) gets installed.
It is an interface to easily load, program and verify software. It avoids the complexities of MPLAB X IDE.
3.3 MPLAB XC32 Compiler
The compiler version for MPLAB XC32 used is v4.35.
