what would be the absolute cheapest design to make a 3d printer? could there be a build on this?

Have you thought about replicating your 3-D printer with a 3-D printer since the 3-D printers are self replicating? This way you can have several machines running at the same time creating different or the same project.
Billy,
The Arduino is essentially an Atmel microcontroller (single-threaded, with onboard RAM and EEPROM), which you can self source for a few dollars each. There are some excellent tutorials over at MAKE Magazine if you need some help getting started: http://makezine.com/category/electronics/arduino/

check out the Peachy Printer, it's still in development but it's comming along very nicely, and for $100 you can't go wrong
Wrong-about the peachy. First-the site is too ambiguous! Next, the Polymers are too damned expensive-and well; I don't like being nickeled, and dimed to death! This guy is hoping to be the next great Sandwich maker-well he missed. The liquid resign is at least 60.00 a Liter-holy cow! I can get the same set up he offers @ 89.00!
Please define the capabilities you want and a modest definition of cheap.
Also, if you could identify the use you have for the printer, it would help others keep a lookout for you.
