Fly it at night and you will get reports of UFO's in your areas. If nothing else, you could buzz the local agriculture fields and provide them some supplemental lighting. DAB

You are spot on yes I use an IR camera (I'm currently sorting out the type of cam and and and...)+ additional sensoring, to get more results per pass and cross evidence. I'm working on both prototypes…

thanks for pointing out the Techpod I wasn't aware of that product.

Today I received a Piper J-3 Kit (900mm wingspan) today which will serve as my main fun plane + Testing rig for  the sensory equipment I'm developing separately.

Well until the quadcopter is ready for takeoff I will experiment with some fixed wings.

For me figuring out the sensors would be a project alone. If I'd like to do something similar I'd use a proven working platform as a basis. There are a lot of hobby RC planes around for every budget. So personally I'd use one of those first and build the appliacation on top. If it turns out that the platform works sub optimal than I can allways change that. But if you are trying to learn aircraft design VTOL is a good place for failure and gaining experiance from that image

If it is just because of cost, there is an other platform worth mentionig, the TechPod. Cost is aprox 1/2 of the explorer.

I am not into fixed wing - flying (or at least trying to image) everything copter (quad / heli)

yes I use an IR camera (I'm currently sorting out the type of cam and and and...)+ additional sensoring, to get more results per pass and cross evidence.

I'm working on both prototypes Quadcopter  & Plane (2 Types a smaller slower one(smaller areas) and a bigger ,SOARER faster version) maybe the result might be a hybrid  VTOL-Plane. it depends on the tasks.

I acquired some vineyards , crop fields, and alpine forest as testing fields for 2016/17.

Bormatec Explorer is a great plattform, but I try to go my own way on a lower budget, right in the DIY spirit. and If I fail I have at least  gained experience in flight..

sounds intresting. do you use an IR camara for nutrition monitoring?

Ok it depends on how big your fields are image but I think planes fit better - they easily can stay 45 min in the air (cf Bormatec Explorer for example).

    BOTH!!image

In fact it do try to use my quadrocopter for an agricultural purpose ( rapid monitoring of health/nutrition condition) and  I surely will fulfill the UFO plan .

I'm also experimenting currently with RC-planes for the same purpose.
