I have a whole Op Amp box, the problem usually is that when I build a project I don't have the specific Op Amp I need. It would be very interesting to know how to find an equivalent or substitute for an op amp

I worked as a tech for years, and same as you, repaired and replaced as needed.. op amp failures were few and far between, but they did happen! Glad I could help out in refreshing some op-amp knowledge, and I appreciate the feedback.

Hi Saad,

It's always fun to hear about theory, and then actually see it in a lab demo. This is mainly what drew me into electronics, was watching it work in the end. Even more fun was seeing a discrete analog to digital converter working on a multichannel oscilloscope; the synchronicity of the signals seemed almost mechanical.

I love hearing stories like this. I'd imagine if you were working with op amps in their infancy, then you'd have had to install those "extra external components" like the compensation capacitor. Pretty cool that you got the transducers for free. I remember writing to Burr Brown back in the day and getting some really low noise op amps - I don't think I ever ended up using them.

Really good content! I had only used op-amps in inverting, non-inverting and comparator configurations. I especially found the summing and differencing configurations very fascinating, and was blown away by the common mode noise removal demo. Thanks for making and sharing this amazing content!

I did a report on opamps for tech school some forty years ago. They were just in their infancy. The instructor encourage me to do a thesis paper on the subject but I chose to build an ultrasonic motion detector. The transducers were $1k. I wrote a letter to the manufacturer with an endorsement from my lab instructor and the company sent two crystal transducers to me for FREE!
