The Winners:
ThingBot & Wednesday Interview by dougw
Inspired by his granddaughter's fascination with Wednesday Addams, the project was born out of a desire to create an animatronic "Thing." His primary engineering challenge revolved around orchestrating the control of at least two finger joints with a single mechanism, potentially extending to three. Meticulous 3D printing was undertaken to craft the hand components, ensuring precise finger geometry. In addition to his engineering work, he ventured into the realms of voice acting and choreography for a video, capturing all footage in a single take. Regrettably, delays in receiving the ordered motors prevented all fingers from operating concurrently, but he has an Arduino and multi-servo controller standing by for future control. Despite the intricacies of hand and finger anatomy, the project ultimately achieved the desired functionality, showcasing the efficacy of compact servo motors in driving intricate hand movements. It posed technical challenges but paved the way for further possibilities down the road.
