I guess the suggestion box moved here so I will reiterate one idea I mentioned earlier and add one: - a classroom demonstration of some physics phenomenon ( jc2048 had some good ideas ) - a solar powered…

Keeping with July and (northern hemisphere) Summer time, I like Douglas' ideas. Demonstration of physical phenomenon for classroom is a great avenue, I was thinking lots of solar stuff. Charging systems…

IBM's decision to use the Intel 8088 for their PC seems to be mainly their familiarity with the 8086 and the fact that the Motorola 68000 was still a few months away from having all support chips in production.

Here are some ideas that I think could be interesting to explore:

    - Radiofrequency: Circuits, antennas, SDR, HAM, modulation/demodulation, radars, etc

    - Photonics: Lasers, leds, phototransistors, LIDARs, TOF cameras, etc

    - Sensors: Any sensor based project

    - Acoustics: Infrasound, audible sound, ultrasound, amplifiers, piezos, etc

    - Hardware hacking: Reverse engineering, modding, adding digital to analog hardware, sniffing busses, modifying firmwares, etc.

    - Control systems: Control systems are used everywhere, in ovens, antiblocking brake systems, drones stabilization, segway stabilization, etc. Many systems would not be able to operate at all if they didn't implement a control system. Control systems continuously compare the feedback signal to the provided setpoint to compute the error and accordingly change the system input in order to reach the set point. The math required to create a control system can be from very simple on-off controllers, to PID control, to model predictive control to all kind of exotic algorithms, still the controller task is the same, reach the setpoint quick without overshooting.

I vote for this proposal. Nowadays, all the USB-C phones has the OTG plus a lot of the previous generation smartphones. It is a while that you can program your Arduino from an App.

Not only but the most recent apps can also control the device via BLE (so, no pairing is required and everything of the radio connection is made easy).

    Possible theme:

Phone peripheral. Most phones have a USB OTG port that could connect to a peripheral or accessory. Or the peripheral could be connected via Bluetooth, or even NFC.

Or the project could be a device that uses a phone as its brain. Maybe just a fancy charging cradle that has multiple functions.

My project Smarthab can be monitored and controled by RFID, Internet webpage. For instance you were out of town and you had put the Smarthab into vacation mode before you left. Your now coming home and in the airport waiting for you flight, you could then to go back on the normal 77 degrees at 40% humidity. When you get home your house recognizes your car (wifi) and opens the garage door. When you walk up to you front door it unlocks it when you are with in 1 foot of the door.

    Hi makarand23 ,

The Remote Monitoring & Control is now open and you're invited to submit your project ideas in the comments of the theme doc:

    Hi makarand23 ,

The competition actually begins June 14th.   There was an error on the page that has since been corrected.  That said, as balearicdynamics you are free to post your project ideas well in advance of that date.   We would be particularly interested in what kinds of projects you want to build for this competition as it may inspire ideas for others.

That theme doesn't currently appear to be open for enrolling as yet.

Check back here on the 15th:

Project14 | Project Competition: Events, Trophies, Timetable, Projected and Historical Timelines!
    https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-88530/l/project14-project-competition-events-trophies-timetable-projected-and-historical-timelines

at which point there should be a link to submit a blog for that project theme which if followed will give you the option to submit a project idea.

In the meantime, perhaps have a read of:

How to Submit a Project Entry
    https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-86265/l/how-to-submit-a-project-entry?ICID=project14-nfc-rfid-3step

and take a look at some of the past projects to see the general format.

Good luck with your project entry. image
